How many times have you been reading on your eReader when your child comes and asks to play with it? And of course, you’re afraid he will accidentally break it, so you give him something else to play with instead. Except you still feel a little guilty, right?
We’ll not anymore!
V Tech apparently thinks there’s a demand for a “children’s Kindle” so to speak. Teleread has informed us that they’ve just released an eReader, appropriately titled the V.Reader, aimed at children ages 3 to 7.
Just snap in a cartridge and listen to the story as it’s narrated to you along with a slide-show. Plus, touch any page to uncover hidden “hot spots.” Touch a word, and V.Reader reads it to you out loud. Nice.
The V.Reader will go for $60 and includes one single book to start the kid off. Additional titles will cost $20. Yes, twenty dollars.
V.Reader features a clear touch screen and QWERTY keyboard. Other features include an earphone jack, volume control, and a toggle on/off for music. The device does not include the SD card that’s required for downloading online content, nor does it include an AC adapter. Instead, it runs on 4 AA batteries.
Apparently, early reviews by Warren at Gadgetwise do not indicate that this device will be a winner. Quite the opposite. He says the device is too unresponsive for children and claims the “sluggish page turns and choppy animation” will leave children bored to tears.
But at least your child won’t be breaking YOUR Kindle, right? ; )
For more information, goodereader.com has a nice write up on some more of the features.
