It’s a sad day : (
The Hearst Skiff eReader COULD HAVE been a great device. Hearst designed it to be the revolution in magazine reading. It was destined to save the industry, which itself is facing a slow death. When they unveiled it at this year’s CES, hopes were high.
Unfortunately, News Corp, who has acquired Skiff LLC, has decided it will abandon the device. BUT, this doesn’t mean the eReading software won’t be used as a premium journalism service similar to Hulu, but for magazines. That is still a likely possibility given the acquisition.
Personally, I would have really liked to have gotten my hands on one. I’m not much of a magazine reader, but I can still appreciate a shiny gadget when I see one. This one in particular was interesting in that it was as large as a magazine, yet still handsome and slim. Plus, images circulated around the net have shown that it is even flexible and bendy. Very cool indeed.
May you live on for eternity in eReader heaven…
