Nintendo 3DS may support eBooks
Last week, I posted about Nintendo 3DS possibly doubling as an eReader after Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata dropped multiple hints at E3 that something like this was in the works.
Since then, Iwata has continued to hint about this in major newspapers. He mentions that the 3DS will use it’s wifi capabilities to download magazine and newspaper articles to the device, and maybe even eBooks.
He had this to say when interviewed by Japanese newspaper Nikkei:
“[The 3DS] will seek out and automatically connect with wireless LAN spots, and download information”
If the rumors turn out to be true, this will be one of the few emerging devices which attempt to combine portable gaming and ebook reading together in one place. The iPad is also pretty similar in that it can be used for web, email, gaming, ereading, videos, music, and other media.
I for one think this would be a smart move. Nintendo needs to think multi functional if it wants to keep up with the big boys.
