Casebound & Dust-Jacket Hardback Editions

Hardback editions available for black & white and full-color books

To give you the most publishing flexibility, Outskirts Press offers two types of hardcover books.

Outskirts Press offers both casebound and dust-jacket hardback covers for both black & white and full-color self published books.

Outskirts Press offers laminated casebound hardback books.Casebound Hardback:

A laminated casebound hardback is printed with your full-color cover image and has either a glossy or matte finish.

Outskirts Press offers dust-jacket hardback options for book publishing.Dust-Jacket Hardback:

A dust-jacketed hardback will have a laminated casebound cover printed to look like blue cloth which is then covered in a removable, full-color, wrap-around dust jacket in either a glossy or matte finish.

The book title and your name are printed along the spine, space permitting (up to 42 characters).

Most authors choose to have the size of their hardback be the same size as their paperback.  The option to have a different size for your hardback is also available.

Hardback Recommendations:

Fiction hardbacks are typically 6x9, 5.5x8.5, or 6.14x9.21—rarely are they larger.
We do not recommend a laminated casebound hardback for a fiction book, fiction should only be published with the dust-jacket hardback option.

Outskirts Press offers dust-jacketed hardback books for fiction authors to improve book sales

POETRY Books:
Poetry hardbacks tend to be 5.5x8.5 or 6x9.  As with fiction books, it's best to avoid the laminated casebound option and instead choose the dust-jacket option for poetry books.

Outskirts Press offers dust-jacketed hardback books for poetry authors to reach more readers.

Non-fiction hardbacks are typically 6x9, 6.14x9.21, or 7x10—rarely are they smaller, though they can sometimes be larger at 8x10 or 8.5x11.  Whether or not your non-fiction hardback is the laminated casebound or the dust-jacket option is largely dependent on your particular sub-genre and/or personal choice.  Cookbooks, in particular, are almost always laminated hardbacks, so they lay open easily for your would-be chef.

Outskirts Press offers dust-jacketed hardback books so non-fiction authors can be available to more readers.

Children's hardbacks can be either laminated casebound or dust-jacket hardbacks.  But we typically recommend laminated casebound since dust jackets can be easily lost or torn by little ones.  The most popular size for children's hardback books is 8.5x8.5 (square), 11x8.5 (landscape), or 8.5x11 (portrait).
Outskirts Press offers dust-jacketed hardback books for juvenile book authors so they can reach more children, because kids can be hard on books they love.
